Europe's First 3D TV service drops next year →
So you’ve just bought a new HD TV, and shelled out for that sort-of-pointless HD cable box upgrade you hardly ever use. Well, sorry to break it to you, but you’ll soon be behind the curve. BSkyB has announced it will start its first 3D TV service next year, which you’ll need a 3D-ready TV (normally anything with a 120Hz refresh rate) and a pair of those oh-so-geeky shutter...

Apple uses 'Bush administration' tactics to combat... →
Oh, Apple, how low you have stooped. To cast Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt onto the concept of Jailbreaking in order to win an argument with the EFF? Come on Apple, you’re better than that. “Apple has told the US Copyright Office that jailbroken iPhones could lead to crashed cell phone towers and drug dealers freely making anonymous phone calls.” Sure, sure. Jailbroken phones...

Military Researchers Develop Corpse-Eating Robots →
Apocalypse-loving doomsayers, rejoice: the worst-case Terminator scenario has just come one step closer, with research being carried out in the real of bots fueled by ‘organic matter.’ This organic matter could indeed include corpses on the battlefield. It will be interesting to see whether “friend or foe” identification will be included, to ensure the carnivorous bots...

UK mobile users: go ex-directory by week's end, or... →
A new directory service for mobiles is about to launch, and you have only until the end of this week to opt-out from having your contact details included.  The service, 118 800, claims it will never give out your actual mobile number, but will allow people to get in touch with you. If you, like me, would rather not be reached by just anybody, you can opt out of the directory here.

The original bible now online: no resurrection, no... →
If there were any more evidence needed that the whole idea of the bible as the word of god is flawed and arbitrary, look no further than the Codex Sinaiticus. The Codex, preserved through 1500 years in a monastery, is now being digitised to be made available online for anyone’s perusal. As the oldest bible in existence, its differences from the modern version are bound to throw a few...

White iPhone 3GS Discoloration? It's the case. →
White iPhones discolouring due to overheating batteries. That was the report doing the rounds for the last two weeks (notably ignored here), and what a pile of bogus it was. Turns out, contrary to the alarmist cries of “OMG my white ifone gon xplode” passed around between blogs like a hot potato, the real truth is a lot less dramatic: colour transfer from a case. The solution? Rubbing...

Spanish scientists develop echo-location in humans →
Daniel Kish and the late Ben Underwood, both blind, grabbed headlines in the past with their amazing echolocation skills - the bat-like ability to ‘see’ by sound alone. Not scientists in Spain are showing early success with a new training protocol which promises to turn anyone into a competent echolocator in as little as two weeks. The real shocker? The spatial resolution humans can...
